In January, Alexander Aan, a 30-year-old in West Sumatra, Indonesia, posted messages to Facebook expressing his lack of belief in God, as well as some satirical cartoons about the prophet Muhammad, and as a result was attacked by an angry mob and then arrested by police under the charge of blasphemy. It seems a bit odd that a Mormon and a Catholic (two Catholics, until recently) are the leading presidential candidates in a Republican party dominated by Protestant evangelicals. Unfortunately, this is not a sign of the religious diversity espoused by presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960, when he assured Protestant ministers in Houston that he believed in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute.

Oscillococcinum, a product marketed as a remedy for flu-like symptoms, is in reality merely sugar water with no medicinal properties whatsoever.
