England’s chief medical officer tells Commons Science and Technology committee that homeopathy ‘is rubbish.’

Yesterday, Professor Dame Sally Davies suggested that there is no evidence to support the claim that homeopathic remedies have any medical impact beyond the placebo effect, and condemned the public funding the controversial treatment receives. She told the committee, ‘I am perpetually surprised that homeopathy is available on the NHS.’

Protecting the lives of children, even from their own parents, is the duty of the state. In most cases, the state does its best to step in when children are being abused and neglected. But when religion is involved the lines become blurred.

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has today submitted a wide-ranging response to the Department for Education’s (DfE) draft primary national curriculum for science. The response welcomes the inclusion of evolution in the curriculum for the first time, something the BHA has long-campaigned for, and support for teaching the scientific method.
