North Dakota says “no” to extremists
Tuesday, North Dakotans gave a resounding “no” to the Religious Right and to the Tea Party, soundly defeating both an amendment to their state constitution and a Tea Party candidate for Senate.
We’ve told you before about Measure 3, North Dakota’s “Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment“.
It was defeated soundly, with 65% of the electorate voting against the measure.
We hadn’t told you about the GOP primary race for Senate, between Representative Rick Berg (labeled a “RINO” by Tea Party radicals) and the Tea Party-endorsed Duane Sands.
Sands, a pro-life, anti-marriage-equality extremist, was just what the Tea Party wanted. And what about 33% of North Dakota’s Republicans wanted. Berg cleaned Sands’s clock, even though Sands had an endorsement from Fox News’s Dick Morris.
Yes, I also find it hard to believe that some people think such an endorsement is a positive thing.
Walker may have survived his recall election in Wisconsin, but the results in North Dakota on Tuesday suggest that the entire nation isn’t ready to make the sharp right turn some are hoping for.
