Hey! What Happened to the Comments?
Over the weekend, we tweaked the site comments features a bit. Here’s what has changed.
We’ve dropped IntenseDebate. Not only did it increase page load time, but there was also trouble with syncing of comments. A comment would appear on the article page, but not show up in IntenseDebate (in the sidebar) for hours.
We’ve added Facebook Comments. Yes, those of you on Facebook can now log in with your Facebook account, comment, and post your comments directly to your Facebook Wall (or not, if you don’t want to).
We still have WordPress-based comments. So, you don’t have to be on Facebook to play! We did remove the URL/Website field from the comment form for anonymous users . . . always trying to cut down on the spam so we spend less time moderating spam and more time writing and improving!

Thank you for going strictly to Facebook as I have taken down my FB page and have no intention of reopening it. I do not trust that web site and I don’t think anyone should.
My mistake……….that should be thank you for NOT going strictly to Facebook.
Agreed. I will not use Facebook or Google ID to comment. Their policies (and their ‘real name’ requirement) are a serious threat to privacy.
It makes it easy for anyone (potential employer, neighbor, stalker, whatever) to easily find all the posts you make in a variety of places and gather a LOT about you from a google search.
I post on a number of different forums, and use a variety of generic names. I’m not being a sock puppet, I’m just protecting my privacy

I agree that Facebook has issues, hence the combination of commenting options. I just wish there were a way to combine the two, instead of having the “site-based” comments separate from the Facebook comments.
Ah well!
