Rod Parsley Endorses Radical "Heartbeat Bill"

Add Rod Parsley to the emerging list of leaders backing Janet Porter’s extreme “heartbeat bill,” which would criminalize the vast majority of abortions in Ohio. Porter’s legislation has already won the support of prominent Republicans like Mike Huckabee, Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) and Ken Blackwell, and the activist even brought in two pregnant women to the State House to have their fetus’s “testify” in favor of the bill. Robin Marty of RH Reality Check writes that the heartbeat bill, if it became law, would “eliminate virtually all abortion” as it would prohibit a woman from terminating her pregnancy 18 to 24 days after conception.

Parsley, whose megachurch is based in Columbus, is a fervent anti-choice activist who believes that Planned Parenthood is controlled by Satan and plotting black genocide. According to Parsley, “there really shouldn’t be any debate where a Christian organization like ours should stand,” and encouraged the Republican governor and GOP-controlled legislature to back the bill. However, Ohio Right to Life Society opposes the bill because it is blatantly unconstitutional and will likely be overturned in court if signed into law.

“I hope that Ohio’s heartbeat bill becomes law this year,” Parsley said, “I also hope the bill becomes the focal point for pro-life activism across the nation, this year.” Porter, a Christian dominionist, already claims that legislators in states like Texas, Georgia, Arizona and Oklahoma want to introduce their own version of the “heartbeat bill” this year.
