Someone should not be able to get a degree and present themselves to the public as a legitimate psychotherapist who has a bias toward gay people. That is stuff the therapist hasn't been able to work out about herself. Don't blame it on her religion, it's her judgment and inability to work with people. She just found a religion that suited her inner pathology! That's all! That pathology should not be unleashed on the public. The public needs help, not injury. This is a no brainer. I am a Christian in a graduate counseling program myself, and understand a little where her head is at. Though I used to share the same belief as her, I do not anymore and fully recognize LGBT as healthy. Basically, to expand on this a little more. She is allowed to retain her own belief. However, she is NOT allowed to let that influence practice decisions. For example, to use a less emotionally charged topic, if a counselor is a vegan, member of PETA, etc., he or she is not allowed to impress any of those personal beliefs on the client. In the same way, no matter what her religious belief, she is not allowed to impress any belief on the client. It sounds like this is a matter of separating her religious beliefs from professional beliefs. If a LGBT member comes into her office and wishes for help regarding clarification of sexual feelings, she is required to support them through this process. In short, if she cannot do this, she needs to get a degree elsewhere and practice in some sort of "ministry" program rather than a secular program.
