News Brief: Mark Twain autobiography to be released soon
A full century following his death, the first volume of Mark Twain’s autobiography will be released shortly. The outspoken atheist had plenty to say about the world he lived in and the people he knew, and wanted to be able to speak freely on subjects like religion and politics.
Upon his death, Twain left roughly 5,000 pages in longhand in an unedited manuscript, with a note instructing his heirs not to publish the material for one hundred years.
This November the University of California, Berkeley, will release the first of three volumes of Mark Twain’s autobiography. The full set will run to half a million words, and may well tell readers more than they ever wanted to know about Samuel Clemens.
