Tea Party Terrorists Lash Out; Window War Goes Bipartisan

window war, gabrielle clifford, broken window, tea party, terrorismThreats and vandalism against Democratic lawmakers and family members have followed the passage of the health care bill. Evidence suggests that some Tea Partiers are partying a little too hard, and they’re receiving online encouragement.

Right-wing blogger Mike Vanderboegh’s Sispey Street Irregulars blog has become mighty popular of late, since the health care vote. Why? Vanderboegh is promoting “Window Wars”.

In 1999, Vanderboegh wrote a short story about people upset about the GOP’s indecision on gun control. The hero of the story, Bob, decides that the best way to express himself is the “heroic” act of tossing a chunk of concrete through a Republican Congressman’s office window at 2 am.

Yes, this is a “hero”. A cowardly vandal.

And the result? Cowardly copy-cats, of course, targeting GOP and Democrat offices, also hiding under cover of darkness:

Exactly one month after Bob Stone broke his first window at 509 East Broadway, copy-cat incidents were happening ten or twenty times a night with no end in sight.

In closing, Mike writes,

Remember one thing: Adolf Hitler was elected, and the Nazis passed laws justifying every horrible act they later committed. In such a country, law-breaking is not a crime but a virtue. Before we get too far down that road, perhaps a little window-breaking is in order. Waiting too late to oppose tyranny has always led to bloodshed. Let us avoid that if we can. But history holds such windows of opportunity open only so long, and ours is rapidly closing. Perhaps by breaking the window now, we can escape the horrible alternative. And if in the unlikely event my modest story should become fact, somewhere The Sons of Liberty will be smiling.

Mike’s definitely smiling, as his “window war” is becoming reality. Windows of a number of Democratic Party and legislator offices have been broken, and Mike gleefully reports on each one. Windows of Democratic legislator offices have been broken in Wichita, Kansas; Cincinnati, Ohio; Tucson, Arizona; and Rochester, New York.

Mike is now exhorting his readers to “break their windows“:

. . . given the federal mandarins’ willful ignorance of our very existence and conviction that we have no opinions that they are bound to respect, is there anything that can be done to prevent civil war?

Yes, there is.

We can emulate the Sons of Liberty of old.

We can break their windows.

These windows are not far away from where you are reading this right now. In virtually every city and county in this land, there is a local headquarters of Pelosi’s party — the Democrat party. These headquarters invariably have windows. When the Sons of Liberty wanted to express their opposition to the actions of the King’s ministers, they would gather in front of the homes and offices of his tax-collectors and government officials in Boston or New York and break their windows. Glass was expensive. The King’s minions were often the most well-to-do. The Sons of Liberty hit them in their pocketbooks.

A little broken glass, it’s not the end of the world. Trouble is, people are already going farther. CNN reports that a Tea Party activist posted the address of Virginia Rep Tom Perriello’s brother online. Someone reading that website took it upon him (or her?) self to pay a visit, cutting a gas line on the property. While nobody was harmed, this time, it demonstrates that the Tea Party Terrorists are happy to target not just people they disagree with, but also their extended families . . . who more than likely were NOT casting votes in the House of Representatives.

Threats by Tea Party Terrorists have expanded to the racist — black Rep James Clyburn receiving a fax with an image of a noose and threatening phone calls — and the otherwise disturbing. Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Missouri) found a coffin placed on his front lawn, which Tea Partiers had used as a prop at a demonstration outside his office.

True to Vanderboergh’s story, today the Window War went bipartisan. Eric Cantor (R-Virginia), the #2-ranking Republican in the House, received threatening messages as well . . . and a bullet fired through his office window in Richmond.

Vanderboergh’s story is about how people avoided a civil war by smashing windows, with no bloodshed. That’s his idealized world. Here in the real world, violence escalates. It’s starting already, with death threats and now bullets instead of rocks. Where will it end?

Does this give you an idea?

Conservative blogger Solly Forell is now being investigated by the Secret Service after some rather exuberant postings on Twitter:

solly forell twitter threat to obama, assassination

Earlier today, self-described conservative blogger Solomon “Solly” Forell posted a tweet that included a call for assassination, as well as this line: “We’ll surely get over a bullet 2 Barack Obama’s head!” It gets worse:

potus, sorry forell, assassination, obama, twitter

Jezebel points out that this is not protected free speech, but rather a serious criminal offense:”

Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

Oops.

  1. This is probably just the beginning of problems. Anytime people who aren't well informer begin listening to others who use fear and hate as their reason for speaking you get more and more violence. I think to many people make the claim that those they oppose are like Hitler. I am not a historian but do know enough that he came to power though violence and hate. The only ones I see using that method are those claiming others are like Hitler. People need to quit depending on talking heads for their information and turn to the many different news outlets online to find the truth. You can't limit yourself to just one or two outlets but to several.

  2. Your story's diminished by your attempt at equivalency (Cantor's story's been debunked by local police).

    • Really? Where have you seen that? Everything I’m seeing says that Richmond police have confirmed that his window was shot.
