I propose to physically castrate ALL priests (worldwide) as soon as they are ordained as such. Period. No more temptation. No more child molestation. No more guilt. No more ruined lifes. The end of law suits. From that point on, the Church may proceed with its main business: Saving souls. GBY

I'm torn, myself . . .

The parishioners didn't directly do anything wrong, and have a right to be offended.

But by continuing to support the Catholic Cult, they enable ongoing abuses; not just child abuse, but attacks on the reproductive rights of women (resulting in poverty and overpopulation); oppression of gay people, nonbelievers, and religious minorities; the appropriation of donated funds for fancy buildings, cars, jewelry and artwork while people starve; and sectarian warfare, among others.

So . . . How about a special tax on religious organizations, to pay for whatever policies are enacted based on religious beliefs?

Righty-right. I actually think getting the parishoners to pay the cost for the parish's role in hurting kids makes a lot more sense than the American reaction, which is for churches to file bankruptcy and tell the victims they're out of luck.

Yeah all churches work this way. Once a church has either property or cash it doesn't want to part with it unless it enables them more control. Look at all the so called charity that many of the churches claim to do. I have looked into it a little and seldom does the church actually spend much of its own on charity but calls on the people within the church to give more money, food or clothes for the cause. The church then takes full credit for the charity work done by individuals or groups that have give them goods to distribute. I think the courts should order the Catholic church to sell property or whatever else it has to cover the cost.

well, if the church members don't pay, who should pay those abused parties? just as business pays if an acting member slanders someone or commits an actionable offense, the church is a business-regardless of its tax exempt status and must pay. in a business, the shareholders may take a loss, so should those who invested in a church that allowed such things to go on. you can't really be a member of an organization who has been so grossly negligent or possibly intentionally deceptive and think your hands are clean.
