Psalm 109:8 — Fundamentalists Pray for Obama's Demise

In a bizarre twist, fundamentalist Christians have commercialized imprecatory prayer against President Obama, promoting prayers for his demise via t-shirts, mugs . . . and teddy bears.

Snuggle This That’s right, this snuggly little fellow, available from Cafepress, says “Prayer for Obama, Psalm 109:8″.

What does Psalm 109:8 say?

Psalm 109:8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Well, that’s not very nice.

These lovely words from God’s Own Book may be cherry-picked, but they demonstrate genuine Christian Love. Let’s see them in context!

Psalm 109:1-19

1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

As you can see, the psalmist is devastated that someone has insulted and humiliated him. In response, he seeks a curse on not merely the offender, but his entire family.

That’s right, people wearing these shirts and buying these toys are not asking that the President become a Christian and change his ways. They are not asking that he support the causes they believe in.

They are openly praying and asking you to pray that the President of the United States be cursed by their god, that he die and his family suffer horribly in poverty and aided by none until they are all wiped out.

Christian love. Ain’t it grand? Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

How about you?

  2. I pray, sincerely and fervently, that no one will harm Obama. We needn’t martyr this incompetent boob.

I do pray that he will be prevented from further harming this country. He is a liar, a communist radical, an en-slaver of the poverty stricken and the common man. His every action is designed to destroy the prosperity of this country in the name of government-imposed financial equality. His every action is contrary to the best interest of the people of this country.

While I do not wish ill on his family, I would like to suggest he make an unaccompanied trip to the tribal areas of Pakistan to work some more of his diplomatic magic…………

    • granitestander, I absolutely LOVE your post! The funny thing is that my husband said exactly the same thing yesterday about the trip to Pakistan! :-)

  3. First, what exactly do you mean with "Fundamentalists"? Libs love to use words they don't even understand. I recall the horrible verbal/written attacks on President Bush during his years in office. Some wished him dead, publicly. There was even a movie where President Bush was killed! I bet you were concerned and outraged then too, weren't you?!

    • Yes. Next question?

    • "fundamentalism: a movement or attitude stressing strict and literal adherence to a set of basic principles"

      - That means if you want Obama dead because of what's in the Bible, which is a set of strict basic principles, then you are by definition a fundamentalist. If you wished Bush dead because he was a terrible president, then you are not a very nice person, but you are NOT a fundamentalist, because your wish does not stem from the literal interpretation of some set of dogma.

Are you certain YOU understood the word?

      - Also, of course, what Jenny said. Anyone half-way sane would have been equally concerned about sincere wishes of death upon Bush as well, regardless if they liked the man or not. He was a violent moron, but that's no reason to kill him.

I'm glad I'm not a Bible worshiper. You people are petty, aggressive, and judging by your own words, evil.

  5. This is just shameful, hateful and disturbing. Anyone who advocates this interpretation of Psalm 109:8 is no real Christian.

    • I truly agree with you God is of love not hate i find this psalm 109 very difficult to understand. There are bad people that have very good families how could anyone wish harm on the inocent. Thats truly wrong and sinful. God bless.
