Catholic League Quotes Stephen Colbert to Promote Book

Either the Catholic League has developed a sense of humor, or made a major gaffe . . . listing parodist Stephen Colbert as one of the voices promoting Bill Donohue’s latest diatribe.

On the Catholic League’s webpage, a news release for Bill Donohue’s Secular Sabotage: How Liberals Are Destroying Religion and Culture in America includes supportive blurbs from such right-wing luminaries as Michael Medved and the American Family Association’s Don Wildmon.

Imagine my surprise at the final quote:

“Wake up, America! The secular minority has cut the brake cables on America’s In-God-We-Trust-Mobile™! Not even all 43 of our Christian presidents can save us now.” – Stephen Colbert, host of “The Colbert Report”

Colbert, author of I Am America (And So Can You!) and host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, satirizes conservative politics.

I imagine this quote will disappear, so have included a screenshot for your enjoyment!

Update: Shockingly, a majority of conservatives just don’t realize Colbert is a satirist, according to the Huff & Puff Post:

Using data from an experiment (N = 332), we found that individual-level political ideology significantly predicted perceptions of Colbert’s political ideology. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism.

Well, shut my mouth!
